Marc Miralta Flamenco Vibes
Marc Miralta is a daring, enthusiastic and rigorous instrumentalist who has always kept himself between two waters, and in this recording he defies convention and presents us with a milestone in the flamenco jazz genre. In this album, the vibraphone takes centre stage, an unprecedented role that invites surprise.
Miralta’s percussive touch, inherited from his drummer DNA, reveals colours and nuances in an instrument that until now has played a secondary role. Here we are captivated by how the brass and long notes of the vibraphone are complemented by the wood and the shorter notes of the guitar, creating a dialogue that gives life to a duende that can be felt in the air.
Marc transforms jazz classics such as Body & Soul into soleá por bulería rhythms or a seguidilla into a minor blues. His irreversible Tangos and Tanguillos del medio could make even Camarón himself vibrate, and Camí del bosc or Ara sí! submerge us in his most Mediterranean essence.
We are also surprised by his ingenious ‘tune sandwich’, a creation by Cesc Miralta that fuses two compositions, thus creating a richer and more enveloping A-B-A structure.
We cannot fail to mention the formidable group that accompanies
Marc on this adventure. Pau Figueres on flamenco guitar dazzles with his mastery of the flamenco palos and his ability to improvise; Manel Fortià brings rhythm and solidity to the double bass, and Arnau Figueres overflows with sensitivity and forcefulness on percussion.
We celebrate with enthusiasm the gift that Marc gives us: a sonic journey that defies limits and enriches the soul.
